Carl Taylor, Udo Hennig and Mrs Beyhan Güler met in Koblenz to discuss the content for the Turkish course. During the weekend they established the main characters and storyline for all the units and discussed in greater detail the input dialogues for the first 8 units. Members of staff volunteered to be speakers for the first demo unit of the course.

The meeting took place in the Merhaba Centre in Koblenz, a meeting and training centre to improve German-Turkish relations and improve intercultural understanding. The Centre was established in 1971 and caters for all ages. Its activities include helping people to integrate better into society, helping women and offering vocational training and advice, The Centre also teaches Turkish as a foreign language and as a first language.

Carl and Udo were treated to some Turkish delicacies during the meeting – and endless cups of tea and coffee. For lunch they visited a small family-run restaurant called Hasan Baba. Carl wanted a receipt at the end of the meal. But at that moment the owner’s son walked through the door, who had been working in Africa for 3 months. Everybody had to welcome him and smother him with hugs and kisses. The receipt was forgotten and Carl was left waiting.
