Albstadt, Germany / Istanbul, Turkey
At the start of 2015 the newly founded sales affiliate of the Groz-Beckert Group started business in Istanbul, Turkey. Since then, Groz-Beckert Turkey offers its products and services for the sectors of Knitting, Felting, Tufting and Sewing not only to the Turkish market but also to the markets of Central Asia.
With a turnover of half a billion Euros, Groz-Beckert is the world’s leading provider of industrial machine needles, precision parts and fine tools as well as systems and services for the production and joining of textile fabrics
The move will be targeting Turkey’s soaring textile market. The country is currently ranked as the 8th largest textile exporter in the world and offers distinct advantages which indicate room for more potential growth. The export market is currently estimated at around 5.5 billion euros, which according to IKTIB has risen fivefold in the past twenty years.
“We decided to open a sales affiliate in Turkey to optimally meet the requirements of our customers in Turkey and in the Central Asian markets directly on site … strong textile markets gaining importance in the past years”
Strategic advantage
This recent move also highlights the strategic position of Turkey as an ideal springboard for further expansion into the Middle-East and Central Asia.
The well-established textile industry, which dates back to Ottoman times, offers premium quality cotton from the domestic market (the Aegean region), efficient technology and a relatively inexpensive work-force (accounting for 10% of production costs – equivalent to India).
Perhaps one of Turkey’s key advantages, however, is the location. Positioned between the Europe and Asia, Turkey’s location together with her fast lead times, makes the overall shipping times faster than her competitors – particularly China and India.
UK firms wishing to enter the Turkish market are advised to talk to local UKTI officers:
