October 6th 2013, Leiden, Netherlands. Six members of the NEPTUNE project met in the Leiden Tulip Inn to officially begin the project.
Leiden is a beautiful and typical Dutch city situated south-west of Amsterdam and only 20 minutes from Schiphol International Airport, meaning that the city is very accessible for all partners.
On Friday, the partners met each other (some for first time, whilst others cooperated together on previous projects). The initial discussion revolved around administrative matters relating to the project. Afterwards, the partners had a meal in a typical Dutch restaurant to continue getting to know each-other and brainstorming ideas.
The weather in the Netherlands was absolutely dreadful – it rained non-stop for full three days with severe flood warning – but the partners chose a comfortable meeting room in the heart of Leiden to conduct the meetings.

An evening in Leiden – sheets of rain heaving down and battering the warmly lit-up windows. Needless to say, the city was empty apart from six people hurrying to a restaurant to continue their discussions!
Full details and reports of the project will be uploaded and made available to stakeholders in due course.
